Did this piece for the upcoming Autumn Society of Philadelphia's Golden Age Heroes Show. The show opens on Friday, July 3rd at once again Brave New Worlds Comics down in the Olde City part of Philly. I decided to focus on the Dick Tracy rogues gallery cause they're such an interesting looking bunch of characters, i just couldn't resist. While there are so many more i could've done i ended up featuring Flattop, The Brow, B-B Eyes, Bribery, Little Face, Shakey, Prune Face, The Mole & The Brain...

Check out more of the Autumn Society here...

There was a villain who was never shown. He tried nuclear blackmail against the entire world, and Dick Tracy used an atomic cannon to vaporize him tottally. In the explosion, his yacht and all his bathing beauties were flash-incinerated into ashes !

Some newspapers cancelled the strip over that colossal violence ! It was just like the violence of the early 30's (torture and murder of bystanders) caused some papers to cancel.

88 Keys gunned away in a toolhouse. Brow impaled on a flagpole (Gould normally never plotted a strip ahead of time, but in this case, he saw, in a mental flash, the Brow impaled thus which inspired the story. Pruneface put into suspended animation for 40 odd years, and lived to clash with Tracy 2-3 more times. Selbert DePool SMASHED to death then forgotten by Gould who had hurriedly wrapped up the story.

There are also the innocents who got caught in the gunplay, decedents, only known as corpses or skeletons (Judge Carver wrapped up in a carnivorous plant, the skeleton found in a bridge abutement,...)

The Blank just wore a clever mask. Nothing Yonson had no face at all, just a scar ! I hope soon to find out what happened.

Gould believed that deformity & disfigurement was linked to criminality. So his bad guys got disfigured, and most were messily killed (Rhodent burned to death in his car, Flattop drowned under a pier, Flattop junior driven insane by a ghost and then shot by Lizz. The ghost then said "mission accomplished !" and flew off !. Krome had an arm amputated due to a bullet wound gone septic and then froze to death, while still weak from the slipshod operation. Fifth Millyun & Flyface swept away in a tidal wave. Mole's still around and is reformed, but his ugly grand-daughter got blown up in an explosion. Spots (never shown face on) bought the farm in a shoot-out with Dick Tracy. Shaky froze to death under a pier, Headache got shot through the head by colleagues, repeatedly. And I could go on. Anna Enog ground to death in a machine. Sphinx crushed by the counterweight of an elevator.

Shot by a half-starved Tracy who realized that he wasn't really scratching at that moment, but reaching for his gun !

Er - these look like they're from that cartoon show where Dick Tracy only shows up at the start & finish of the cartoons. He dispatches by wrist-radio, some toon who chases after the bad guys who are robbing jewelry stores or some other petty crime -petty in comparison with rape, murder, animal torture.... One cop was a toon DOG, another a stereotype Japanese.

The series was hosted by "officer" Joe Bolton, who, one day, incurred my wrath and high dudgeon -and I never watched the show again ! Never missed it either ...
